The tomb of the Inca Garcilaso

The Inca Garcilaso died in Córdoba, at his home in the Parish of St. Mary the 22 April 1616: ten days after having completed 77 years old. He was buried in the chapel he send for this purpose in building the Cathedral of Cordoba. This chapel, for its luxury and splendor, make us believe it was not so much poverty Garcilaso as he pondered. When he died in his service had five servants and a Moorish slave; censuses had some consideration, given the value of money of the time, including two who rode ten thousand ducats on the property of the Marquis of Priego, and in his will he founded an anniversary Mass, naming by employers to the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral of Cordoba. Clements Robert Markham, scholar Garcilaso, gives a detailed account of the architecture and beauty that holds the mortuary chapel in the Cathedral of Cordoba: “It is dedicated to the Souls in Purgatory and is located in North Ship, the third to the East. His coat of arms is recorded there in marble and bronze. He finds formed by the four quarters of the families of Vargas, Figueroa, Saavedra and Mendoza. All enclosed by the arms of the Incas. On the gospel side the inscription reads:

"Garcilaso de la Vega. VARON INSIGNE, PERPETUAL MEMORY WORTH. DISTINGUISHED IN BLOOD. EXPERT IN LETTERS. BRAVE IN ARMS. SON OF Garcilaso de la Vega. HOUSES OF THE DUKES OF FAIR , E Infantado ; AND ELISABETH PALLA; SISTER OF CAPAC HUAYNA , ULTIMO DE INDIAS EMPERADOR. Commented FLORIDA. TRANSLATED A HEBREW AND LEON LIVE COMMENTS MADE UP. ".

In the epistle side the inscription reads:

"They lived in CORDOVA, WITH PLENTY OF RELIGION. Murío EGEMPLAR: Doto THIS Chapel. ENTERROSE ON IT. LINK TO THEIR PROPERTY , TO VOTE FOR THE SOULS IN PURGATORY. PERPETUAL TRUSTEES ARE THE LORDS, DEAN , AND CHAPTER OF THIS HOLY CHURCH, The XXII fallecío APRIL M.DC.XVI. PRAYING TO GOD FOR YOUR SOUL ".
