The Almohads were great builders of minarets. They used this element of the mosque, symbol of the presence and the triumph of Islam, not only for purely religious purposes but also as a sign of legitimacy and propaganda and even strategic purposes. The minaret of the Great Mosque of Cordoba served as their model, as, and the embroidery, allowed them to present themselves as heirs of the Umayyad caliphate in the West. The minarets of its great aljamas, of Kutubiyya de Marraquech, and the Giralda in Seville or the ˘ asan in Rabat, demonstrate these purposes.
