David Hockney paints the Mosque


David Hockney, father of British Pop Art, is seduced by Andalusia. And more specifically Muslim architecture, with colorful tiles, fountains and patios, of some of its major cities: Cordova, Granada and Seville. A seduction that reflected in a series of watercolors and large ups. The collection is displayed for the first time in the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy in London, an annual event open to both established artists as novices and held since 1768.

Hockney first visited Andalusia in January. At 67 years old, traveled by car from London and ended up in Madrid, attracted by the work of Goya in the Prado Museum. The result of two weeks wandering the Cordoba Mosque, by the Alhambra in Granada and Seville Gardens, is a collection of six watercolors Hockney large shows for the first time in the popular Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy in London. Hockney himself, in collaboration with the artist Allen Jones, has helped in the selection of works and has been responsible for assembling the same.
